Climbing on a rope reel… what does that change?
Rope climbing
This is the historic discipline, where you climb while belayed by your partner. The lead climber scales the wall and sets the quickdraws before passing the rope through to safety.
There are two variations.
- The great way
The two climbers follow each other up the entire height of the cliff, taking turns belaying on anchors to protect their ascent. Generally, each climbs in turn. Lead climbing is impressive because the climber is above the point (above the quickdraw) that holds them to the wall. The fall is more vertiginous.
Once at the top, the climber descends by rappel or, if necessary, by a path. - The rind
Its particularity is that the climber who is belaying their partner remains on the ground. It is practiced by leading or top-roping, the rope being previously placed at the belay. The climber is held throughout the ascent. The latter practice is more reassuring, as the fall is immediately slowed by the rope.
Bouldering
This is the most explosive type of climbing, where you climb walls up to 4.70 m with sharp profiles and then land on mats. Very fun, it has conquered city centers thanks to its ease of access.
Climbing on a rope reel
This is a new, more urban style of climbing. You secure yourself by attaching your harness to a sling that, like top-roping, holds your fall from the top of the route.
Very practical for climbing without a partner, it offers the possibility of boulder-style climbing at heights of over 20 meters. Ideal for practicing your endurance and technique, it’s a discipline in its own right.
